Charles White wrote in his (and by Little Richard) book The Life and Times of Little Richard about Keep A-Knockin' (Specialty master):

Originally only 57 seconds long, the basic track was doubled and redoubled to engineer it to single-record length. One verse with the words "I'm drinkin' gin and you can't come in" was also deleted from the final release.

In fact nothing was "doubled and redoubled", nothing was "deleted", and so called "original track only 57 seconds long" of Keep A-Knockin' did never exist.

The CD and LP box sets Little Richard: The Specialty sessions (ABOXCD1 and ABOXLP1, Ace Records, UK, 1989) include five takes of Keep A-Knockin': four numbered takes from 1 to 4 and the take called "Master - composite".

But after studying of these tracks I discovered that the master take is in fact the edited take 2. The edit did consist in amplification of the drum intro and of the early fade-out. Look at the printscreen of the test track in SoundForge: master take is in channel 1, take 2 is in channel 2. By listening of this test track, no other difference can be found.

The Charles White's book contains many other mistakes and discrepancies which affected some later releases (like these Ace Records boxes). The Little Richard discography almost finished by our team will take them into account.

Thanks for investigating this. The 'official' story never made sense to me.
