I have that one. I'm a Monkees fan, but most of the special is not very good. Best part is the Listen to the Band freakout jam at the end, and of course the segment with Richard, Fats and Jerry Lee, although it seems Fats and Jerry Lee get much more screen time than Richard. Frustrating!

Totally! I haven't watched it for ages but my memory of it is exactly the same- Richard gets too little screen time and it's good for completist and novelty value only..

Wish I could have been at that special as well Beau...and I feel much the same,to some degree of frustration, about the limited inclusion of LR but Jerry Lee is a sight to behold! And he was greatly influenced by his cousin Jimmy Swaggert(I'm somewhat inclined to prefer the vocals of JS. But JL has the moves(that head swing thing)LOL ..janalee

Saw this for the first time last night. While you could argue that Richard doesn't get as much face time as JLL/FD, it's great that he's on it at all, in a time where he was over a decade out of peak popularity. Having said that, the Monkees themselves were washed up by a couple of years, weren't they?

I guess 1968 is the start of Richard's comeback to national US conscience and the inclusion of three Rock and Roll legends all a decade out of peak popularity is a marker of the revival of the Rock and Roll revival. But Richard is strangely marginalised in the movie compared to Fats and Jerry Lee.

A note of trivia: at the final song, the Listen to the Band funk workout, Mike Nesmith appears to sing "Listen to the Band", followed by the N word at one stage. Are my ears deceiving me?

Hopefully not, because it's a cool song otherwise!

To me it sounds like "Listen to the band, feller."

Could be anything. I think it's actually 'now' but strangulated. Why it should be 'the N word' is a mystery.

Let's wait and hear from the forums resident aural expert.
