Richard's announced his retirement many times in the past. Now, with no formal announcement, it seems he finally has. Opinions?

Since October 2009 he has played only on last year's Capitol Fourth. So, eventhough he might still do an odd show or two, my guess is he's otherwise retired.

Richard is 79 and his hip operation was not a success. I think we can say for certain that he is officially retired.

hip operation was not a success? Oh, that's sad, I hadn't heard. Yeah, he is up there in years. What I would really like is for a proper tribute to the man, a thank you from the artists he influenced, to the man who started it all. All he'd have to do is show up. Kennedy Center honor, or something like that. Hope he is not in too much pain, glad I got to see him 4 times in the 90's-00's.

I know that his health is declining, but I have a little different view point. I've been going to see him regularly for 6 years now and I pay attention to more than the music. When Richard arrives on stage, be rather reminds me of a dry sponge ...the potential is there, but you can't use it yet. As soon as the applause and adulation begin, he's like that sponge soaking up water and you can see him coming
G to life. The longer he's on stage, the perkier he gets, thanks to his audience. As long as he can, I believe he'll continue to perform occasionally because he needs us as much as we need him. Love you, Richard!
