Good Golly Miss Molly

Label Rec. Rel. Record Other info History
Specialty 1956 1958 Single

The tune was likely recorded first by Bumps
Blackwell as a demo, presumably in 1956.
It was probably not released until the '90s.
Richard recorded the "fast" version on July
30 and the "slow" version on October 15
1956. The Valiants recorded and released
the tune in 1957 and it sounds like the fast
version. Richard got the piano opening to
the released "slow" version from Jackie
Brenston's "Rocket 88".

Keep A Knockin'

Label Rec. Rel. Record Other info History
Specialty 1957 1957 Single

The tune was first recorded by James
"Boodle It" Wiggins in 1928. In the '30s
several artists made their version of it,
like Lil Johnson in 1935, Milton Brown
in 1936, and Louis Jordan in 1939. The
famous drum introduction to this Little
Richard version was played by Charles
Connor. It inspired later artists, like John
Bonham who took it and used it on the
Led Zeppelin song called Rock And Roll.

Slippin' And Slidin'

Label Rec. Rel. Record Other info History
Specialty 1955 1989 Box sets

In his autobiography Richard tells he played this tune in his
room way before he started recording for Specialty in Sept.
1955. In 1989 the Specialty Box released some of his 1955
demo recordings of "Slippin' And Slidin'". Al Collins recorded
and released the tune as "I Got The Blues For You" in 1955.
Ruth Durand recorded and released the tune as "I'm Wise" in
January 1956, as did Eddie Bo in February, and his version is
often considered the original. Richard's first released version
was recorded on February 7 1956.
